We’re Back!

The Madisonian Returns

Were Back!

MCHS journalism is back. The Madisonian is proud to bring you the first edition of the newspaper since the spring of 2014. Mr. Shockley is the new adviser of the journalism program which includes the The Madisonian newspaper and Mass Media, and the crew is also completely brand new save one: senior Cosmos Cooper. “I’m excited to be the new head of the journalism program, and I hope we can have the kind of success we’ve had in the past,” Shockley said.

The Madisonian has won several awards over the years including Division 1 Newspaper of the Year as well as numerous awards for individual journalists. The newspaper is going to focus on news mostly around the campus and the community while having some world news and entertainment stories mixed in. “It remains to be seen (how many issues will be produced). We plan to make at least two issues of the newspaper, but we have only one returning journalist and a new advisor. We’re shooting for three or four,” Shockley said.

The newspaper is looking to reduce costs and become a more independent publication by changing over to a digital format while the video journalism wing is currently working with local news station WKM News.

“The initial goal (with the newspaper) is to start small with the new crew. We might have a pamphlet style edition and then move to our online school website. The eventual goal is to put the publication online every time,” Shockley said. “We have been working in conjunction with wkmnews.com and you can visit our website, mchsnews.com, to watch all of the news around our campus and community. WKM and Stephan (DeLorenzo, the owner of WKM) were invaluable in helping me get the Mass Media program off the ground.”

MCHS journalism students such as The Madisonian staffer Elizabeth Anderson is excited about the fresh start. “I joined newspaper because Mr. Shockley is awesome, and I’m excited to reform how people look at the MCHS journalism program (and) also making some well done entertainment and informational articles.

Added Cooper, “Some of the differences from last year are that we have already published stories on our own website and started working on Time Out News.”
