MCHS will introduce a new program in partnership with the Southeastern Career Center beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
The program will be held at SCC in Versailles, and MCHS students will be transported by bus.
“We have redeveloped our partnership with Southeastern Career Center to provide more opportunities for students,” counselor Betsy Sullivan said.
By participating in SCC, students can get a head start on their chosen careers and potentially earn certifications, dual credit, or job skills connected to their field of interest.
SCC provides high school juniors and seniors with opportunities to explore career pathways and prepare for the workforce, apprenticeships, or post-secondary education. SCC serves 11 school districts in six counties and offers 23 programs, according to its website.
SCC can also be an option for students who do not plan to attend a traditional four-year college.
“There are some programs that are just one year, like criminal justice, for example, that they could go to for just one year, their senior year, but it’s only for juniors and seniors,” Sullivan said.
SCC provides hands-on learning in a wide range of career areas. Students use industry-standard equipment in multiple programs, including clinical settings for medical programs.
SCC offers several career pathways, especially in career and technical fields. Programs include automotive technology, construction trades, health careers, welding, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, dental careers, electrical trades, fire and rescue, veterinary science, and other options.
Students may also have the opportunity to earn certifications in different career areas. Possible certifications include CNA, OSHA 10-hour safety, SACA manufacturing credentials, and cosmetology licenses. Many students also have opportunities to earn dual credit through Ivy Tech Community College.
Enrollment is open to students in grades 11 and 12 who attend partner schools.
“It’s for any student in grades 11 and 12,” Sullivan said. “So, 10th grade would take you on a field trip. We show you all the different programs.”
Students interested in SCC must complete an enrollment form with a parent or guardian and their high school counselor. After the form is submitted, students are reviewed to determine whether they meet the requirements for the program they selected.
The cost varies by course. Sullivan said courses may cost about $100 to $300, depending on the program and supplies required.
Southeastern Career Center first opened in 1966. The center is located on 46 acres in Versailles and serves 11 school districts.
