On Sept. 28, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., Madison Consolidated Schools hosted its first homecoming dance since 2022. The event, held in the MCHS cafeteria, celebrated the football team and boosted school spirit. The dance followed a suggested semi-formal dress code and did not feature a set theme. Instead, it showcased MCHS colors.
The idea for reviving the homecoming dance came from the student body and was brought forward through the student council. Both the council and Mrs. Cornelius worked quickly to organize the event. Student council members sold tickets, decorated the gym and stayed afterward to clean up.
Mrs. Cornelius, who oversaw the event, was surprised by the turnout. “We had over 300 students attending the homecoming,” she said.
The dance was planned on a small budget and on a short timeline. Mrs. Cornelius said, “The final cost of the event did stay within the budget. It should allow the student council to give back and do the activities they want to do.”

Because attendance was difficult to predict, food and drink supplies ran low. “The biggest challenge was the food. Next year I will have more food and drink. We will also look into having a DJ or getting a different speaker system. It will just depend on what we can find for the cost,” Mrs. Cornelius said.
Student council member Elena Hinze shared similar thoughts about the audio setup. “I disliked how the speakers were quiet, and it was difficult to hear the music,” she said, supporting the idea of an upgraded sound system.
Junior Amiyah Napier added another note for improvement. “The cafeteria got hot rather quickly. Hopefully, next year the AC will be more adequate,” she said.

The homecoming dance followed the football game the night before. Junior Cole Goodknight said he was “excited to see who wins.” Madison played Providence that evening, but the game ended in a 49–0 loss, adding another defeat to the season. Even so, students remained positive and enjoyed the weekend’s events.
Student Annalise Roney shared her favorite part of homecoming week. “I enjoy getting to dress up with my friends and eating Taco Bell post-game,” she said.
The theme for Friday’s game was USA, and the student section was filled with red, white and blue. Despite the loss, the energy and school spirit carried through to Saturday’s successful homecoming dance.
