Insomniac Games’ Wolverine was one of the major announcements during PlayStation’s most recent State of Play. This action-focused title lets players take on the role of Wolverine in a beat-’em-up style game that explores Logan’s violent past along with his emotional struggles.
Like Insomniac’s previous titles, Wolverine will feature multiple costumes. So far, only his casual outfit and his super suit have been confirmed. There is no clear indication of an open-world map similar to the Spider-Man games, but early footage suggests players will visit several distinct locations, including an area resembling Tokyo and parts of the Canadian wilderness.

The game will also introduce a new voice actor for Logan. Liam McIntyre, known for his role as Weather Wizard in The Flash and for voicing Aquaman and Johnny Quick in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, will bring Wolverine to life.
Insomniac is shifting its combat approach with this game. Wolverine’s fighting style is far more brutal than the studio’s previous titles, allowing players to slice through enemies with a level of intensity not seen in their earlier releases. Instead of strictly following Wolverine’s comic book design, the developers drew inspiration from Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the character.

One common fan question is how the game will handle defeat, considering Wolverine’s healing factor. Insomniac will need to create a gameplay system that keeps combat challenging and fun while still staying true to Wolverine’s abilities. The game appears to honor classic X-Men lore as well. Mystique is confirmed, and trailers hint that Sabretooth may also make an appearance.
Wolverine will be Insomniac Games’ first major release rated M for Mature. This brings it closer in tone to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game, which featured similarly intense combat.
Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled for release in fall 2026 and will launch exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
