Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice rushed into theaters to thunderous applause by audiences but critical reception has been lackluster. Robbie Collin of The Telegraph said, “No major blockbuster in years has been this incoherently structured, this seemingly uninterested in telling a story with clarity and purpose”. That criticism is way too harsh for this film even though, like all films, it has its faults. BvS’ primary faults are when it comes to the pacing and its impatience when it comes to setting up the future Justice League movies. It seems DC and Warner Bros. are acting quickly to catch up to Marvel Films which had a five year head start in world building. It is logical for this incoherent mess to happen because it also seems to be an unnecessary cash grab from the studio and DC.

But that doesn’t take away that it is still an enjoyable film to watch with great action sequences and literal explosive action (not to mention the acting was on point the entire time.) Jesse Eisenberg’s performance was the best out of all of the actors/actresses. Performing with a very convincing and maniacal portrayal of Lex Luthor. While the other actors, such as Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, still did great, his manic Luthor was the best.

Lex is trying to convince the government about “What would happen if Superman went rogue,” and at the same time, Batman asks himself the same question. This eventually leads him to fight Superman in one of the most anti climactic battles in film history. The titular bout lasts between five to 10 minutes long and is the worst few stretch in the film. While this is going on Luthor is hatching a fallback plan. This leads to a satisfying conclusion and the introduction of a very important character to the DC film universe.

Following the way of comic book movies, we will see an inevitable onslaught of DC cinematic movies. Matt Zoller Seitz of Rogerebert.com said that “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is state of the art epic superhero filmmaking. That’s a compliment if you prefer these movies to be ponderous, disorganized and glum…” For a comic book movie,BvS is very dark, but if you want to watch Batman fight Superman, this is the movie for you.
