On March 23, 2021, Indiana’s governor, Eric Holcomb, announced that the mask mandate for the state will become a mask advisory starting April 6, 2021. With the ease of COVID restrictions, some may assume the policy translates state-wide. However, that is not the case for Indiana public schools.

Gov. Holcomb stated in his press release: “K-12 schools will continue under current face-covering requirements through the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.”

Although students had hopes of returning to normalcy this school year, it will have to wait until a later school year.

Madison Consolidated High School student, Quinton Huff stated, “Well, I hoped we didn’t have to wear them all year but here we are.”

State officials are going to decide the mask-wearing fate of Indiana students for the next school year at a later date.
