Gnawbone is a monster/horror movie produced and co-directed by Darrin Means in 2016 and was filmed relatively locally in Crothersville, Indiana .

The story follows a man, who as a kid saw his grandfather killed by a mysterious entity, the titular monster Gnawbone. With the help of a group of his friends, he revisits the place where he witnessed his grandfather’s death to process the memories and to come to terms with the scared little boy that he once was. When they get there, it seem like something was waiting on them.

The gore effects that were present in the film are spot on, and the horror aspect of the film were very reminiscent to the 80’s style horror. The Gnawbone costume was very well made, and the film did not employ cheap, “in your face’” jump scares. When jump scares were present, they were used effectively.

Gnawbone is a good movie, but no movie is perfect. The runtime is a little quick, and some of the kills strongly resemble the deaths from the Predator franchise. 

The film stars Tony Bartele as Tommy, and Charlie Bruce as Scott.  Means, Haiden Means and Trent Persinger are all credited for playing the infamous monster Gnawbone. Gnawbone was shown at the Ohio Theater on October 21, 2016, and released on DVD on June 2, 2017.

Overall, it’s a fun watch. I enjoyed watching every minute of Gnawbone, and I hope that they make a sequel without falling into the traps of many horror sequels.
