Cubs Play Tough but Fall to Red Devils
December 13, 2016
The Madison Cubs Boys’ basketball team hosted the Jeffersonville Red Devils over the weekend for their third home game of the season. The Cubs played tough for the majority of the game, but an ice cold fourth quarter proved the downfall of the Cubs chances of hanging on. Going into the third quarter, the Cubs were only down by five points and finished with a deficit of 16.
The Red Devils had two double digit scorers with Bailey Falkenstein and Mike Minton, with Falkenstein having 20 and Minton with 19. Minton was 5/7 from deep which helped Jeffersonville pull away in the fourth. A hot fourth quarter from deep propelled the Red Devils to victory when they stretched a two point lead to a 16 point win in the last quarter.
The Cubs had strong showings from Daniel Anderson and Cooper Yancey. However, this was not enough. A poor team shooting percentage and a rough fourth quarter only scoring six points added to the ills of the night. Daniel Anderson led the team with nine rebounds while eight rebounds came from Ian Strouse. Cubs big man Junior Carson Howser said, “I think we need to take better shots, our shot selection really hurt us in the long run.” The Cubs fell to a 2-3 record, but take on Bedford North Lawrence in Bedford this Friday.
