Last semester, many students at MCHS were worried about their lack of representation in school board meetings due to the absence of a senior representative, but the school board recently decided on this year’s senior representative. Last week Principal Michael Gasaway chose Abigail Stidham for the distinguished role. Although Stidham was chosen later than previous years’ senior representatives, it was still a welcome choice amongst many students.

Principal Gasaway decided the best and most fair way to pick the representative would be to have students sign up for the position themselves and interview those who signed up. There were six students in total that signed up for the position, all qualified and esteemed students. Those who were not accepted for the position were asked to be on Gasaway’s “Principal’s Council.” The Principal’s Council will be a mixture of students who interviewed for the representative position, and other selected sophomores, juniors, and seniors. These students will be a soundboard for Stidham to collect thoughts and ideas for upcoming board meetings.

The duty of the senior representative is mainly to be a voice for the students. Stidham relays information to and from the students and school board about the well-being of the school and helps to find a positive position for everyone. Stidham spoke at her first school board meeting February 14th, letting the board and public know that things have been going smoothly inside of the school.

“It is a great opportunity for me, and I am glad the student body finally has a voice this year,” Stidham said.

The next school board meeting will be Wednesday, March 7th in the administration building.
