Thanksgiving is a time for being thankful for your family and friends. The day after Thanksgiving is for saying farewell to relatives, storing all of those leftovers, and of course tearing each other apart for material possession. Last year Black Friday was the second busiest shopping day of the year. According to an article on Fundivo.com, over 133.7 million shoppers spend an average of $380 each totalling to about $50.9 Billion in profits.

Black Friday is known to be an insane time for both shoppers and cashiers alike. MCHS student and current Walmart employee Karlee Sherman was also a part of the shopping madness: “The place was overcrowded hours before sales even started. Every register was open and every self-checkout was manned.  There were multiple fights, my favorite being one between two old ladies over a sewing machine.”

Any normal person would be terrified of working Black Friday in those conditions but not this employee. “I really want to work just to see the cashier’s side of things. Also it’s kind of like watching WWE and John Cena as a metaphor for the hostility.”

We all hear about the fights on the news throughout the sales, such as a women breaking out the pepper spray to snag the new Xbox or crazed mobs fighting over a $2 waffle maker. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, Black Friday is generally unpredictable considering sales and the actions of people.
