Madison Consolidated High School’s small gymnasium recently held a cornhole tournament during school hours on Monday, February 19th, through Thursday, February 22nd, hosted by the Madison FFA.

All participants competed for a cash prize of $145.

Amanda Briggs, Madison Consolidated FFA advisor and educator explained, “The purpose behind cornhole was to get non FFA and FFA students involved in a common activity.  The FFA has certain criteria that it must meet each year and one of these categories is Healthy Lifestyle which is about being active.  This event meets the criteria for this area. The event was held during FFA week which is a national event hosted by the Department of Education and recognized by the Indiana Department of Education as well. The entry fee was $5 and all the funds from the events went back to the winning team.”

The cornhole tournament featured students that paid for positions within the tournament.  There were 19 teams (38 students)  total who competed along with several FFA members who helped score.

Connor Thurnall and Trayton Hostetler, both FFA senior members, won the tourney.

“It was nice to win the FFA Cornhole Competition this year. I have been trying all four years of my high school career, and to win it my senior year, means something to me,” Hostetler said.

Briggs added, “The turnout for the event was great!  The students seemed to have a good time and it was a great way to relieve stress before ISTEP week next week. The student body was very well behaved. I was very proud of the event and how it turned out.”
