Madison Consolidated High School senior Jaleesa Elliott received $1,000 on May 9th, 2017 from the Community Foundation Dinner for scholarships.

Soon to be an MCHS alumni and MCHS journalist alumni, Elliott’s name was placed in a drawing with 127 other students and her name happened to be drawn. Because her name was drawn, Elliott received $1,000 and was given the choice to donate it to a community, group, foundation, etc., but she had to donate it.

Jaleesa decided to donate her earnings to the MCHS Madisonian Journalism program because journalism is what she is going on to college to study. Her generous donation helped the program to buy new cameras.

Elliott said, “I really like Journalism and I am going to college for Journalism so I thought it would be the perfect organization to donate the $1,000 to.”

MCHS Journalism adviser Jake Shockley said, “I am really thankful that Jaleesa thought of the Journalism program and I am very proud of the work that The Madisonian did this year as a group and the work Jaleesa did as an individual. Equipment is always necessary as it develops and evolves over time, so that grant money will be put to good use.”
