Smoke in D Wing Causes School Evacuation

Kennedy Park, Staff Writer

Updated: Today Madison Consolidated High School evacuated due to a fire alarm during the passing period between sixth and seventh period.  Smoke set off the alarm in the girls restrooms in D wing. Three toilet paper rolls were lit on fire, and students and staff immediately exited the building calmly to the adjacent parking lots. Students were outside for seven to 10 minutes before returning to class.

A message from MADISON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL CORPORATION

Good afternoon,
We wanted to reach out and make you aware of a situation which occurred this afternoon at MCHS.  At approximately 2:15 p.m. today the fire alarm was activated after someone had taken three rolls of toilet paper and set them on fire in the girl’s bathroom in D wing.  The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished prior to the dispatch of the fire department.   Students returned to their classrooms shortly after the situation was assessed and determined it was safe to return.
Thank you,
Ashley Schutte, Communications Coordinator
