A wide variety of people use social media to express their thoughts, feelings, or daily life and keep their friends or followers up to date. Current President Donald Trump has also been known to use social media to make announcements or state his opinions, and it is no secret that Twitter played a small role in Trump’s victory in the presidential election.

Many have different opinions on Trump’s use of social media. Some are fascinated, others are annoyed by it all, and some view his usage of Twitter as “unprofessional.”

MCHS teacher Mrs. Kristen Kozenski said, “I agree with Donald Trump’s decision on tweeting about upcoming events, but he does not seem to have a filter.”

Some students like Shane Baker agrees: “It is unprofessional. I feel like he tweets like kids do and has no filter.”

For example, some feel it is undignified for the President to personally attack others. Trump famously tweeted in response to Meryl Streep after she had an anti-Trump message in an acceptance speech: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes….”

However, Trump has used Twitter to get the word out about any upcoming event or simply to give Americans incite to policy and his administration’s beliefs.

Also, Trump’s activity on Twitter and its possible effect on the election cannot be ignored.

“Donald Trump could potentially use Twitter for better reasons but I feel like his use of Twitter made him bigger and more popular,” Junior Brayden Perry said.

Trump supporters feel that using social media is a good way for the president to let his people know what is going on in their country. Students Brianna Torrance and Bailey Dyer explain, “The usage of Twitter is not unprofessional; it is the things Trump says and the way he uses Twitter that make it seem a bit unprofessional.”

While controversial, Trump’s Twitter activity keeps his fans in the loop without media interference, and many supporters and non-supporters alike “like” and re-tweet his posts.
